CPR Adams & Westlake "Adlake" Reliable Switchman's Lantern - 1920's

Dating to the mid-1920's, this tall-globe Adlake switchman's railway lantern features a “bull’s-eye” lens which provided a focused beam of light, and a fixed wooden handle (known as a rigid bail).  

The one-piece top of the lamp chimney is marked “The Adams & Westlake Co, Adlake Reliable, New York Chicago Phila.”

The top of the lantern hood is marked "Patented Sept 21, 1897 - May  5, 1908 - 2 - Pats Jan 26, 1909 - Nov 20, 1911 - 2 - Pats. July 2, 1912 - Apr 1, 1913.

The lantern base has an applied metal tag for the former owner ("J. Auclair, Calgary").

The E. Miller burner is a drop-out pot (sometimes called a "Sangster" fount), a unique feature found in early lanterns of this type.  

The clear glass globe is marked CPR in raised glass.

Condition: Good used. This is an antique piece with rust, wear and dents, and is meant for decorative use only.
