A matched pair of cast iron, hand-painted fleur-de-lis bookends, made by the Albany Foundry in Albany NY, in 1932 (the last year the foundry operated).

Albany Foundry, originally a stove manufacturer, expanded production in 1903 to include bookends, doorstops, candle sticks and fireplace andirons.  Quite uniquely (and perhaps ahead of their time), they sold their wares painted and unpainted, and included instructions in their catalogue on how to paint cast iron!

Condition: Good used. Lots of wear on the paint finish, but the cast iron has no chips or breaks.  Base stamped 47 Albany Fdy 32.  See photos for details.
