Clasco Canada Cowl/Side/Tail Auto Lamps for Ford Model T 1915 - 1927
A set of two car cowl/side/tail lamps made in Canada in the first part of the last century.
Cowl/side lamps were not headlights - they were kerosene lamps mounted at the widest part of the car hood, where the engine cowl met the windshield or along the side of the vehicle. Tail lamps were mounted on the back of the vehicle.
Cowl and side lamps were used for a couple of purposes - as parking lamps (in days before much street lighting!), as well as to show oncoming drivers the width of the car heading towards them.
Cowl/side lamp - marked "Clasco, Made in Canada" on the top, with a clear ribbed lens, and a twist off burner at the base. Clasco (Canadian Lamp And Stamping Company) produced auto lamps for Fords sold in Canada (which is why these are not labelled Ford).
Tail lamp - manufacturer unknown, red ribbed lens at the front and a clear, much smaller lens on one side. The red lens is marked "Jefferson 911" on the inside rim. Like the cowl lamp, the base twists off, but the burner has been lost to time and is missing.
Condition: fair used. These were working car lanterns and show signs of their age, but surprisingly don't have many dents. Tail lamp is missing its burner. See photos for details.
