The Rayo No. 39 tall globe brakeman's lantern was made in the USA for the Standard Oil Company in the 1920's - 1930's.  The Rayo #39 was the only lamp made for railroad use and interestingly, they were never personalized for any of the railroad companies they were sold to.

The lantern top is marked Rayo No 39 WB. The clear globe is not original to the lamp, since it's marked SMP Quality, the branding used by Toronto's Sheet Metal Products Co., (the manufacturer of Beacon lanterns) and No 11.

The underside of base is unmarked (or painted over).  The burner wick control button is missing. The drop out pot burner is unmarked.

Condition: good used. This lantern has been repainted in matte black, there is no rust and no dents.  The burner pot is stuck in position and cannot be removed. The globe has extensive cracking.  Note: this is a vintage piece, meant for decorative use only.  See photos for details.
