The Annual Provincial Normal School Year Book, Vancouver, BC, 1929-30
This 1929-30 Normal School Yearbook, originally belonging to "Bunty" (Margaret) Renwick, gives us a glimpse of teacher training life almost one hundred years ago.
Teachers Colleges in Canada were called normal schools (from the French école Normale), and were publicly funded institutions that provided instruction in the “norms” or standards of teaching.
The Vancouver Normal School was the first in the province, opening in 1901 and closing in 1956 when responsibility for teacher training was transferred to The University of British Columbia.
