This very large non-sweating signal lamp was made around 1938/39 by the Lamp Manufacturing and Railway Supplies Ltd. London.

It's marked LMS Railway for the London, Midland and Scottish Railway Company, which operated from January 1923 until December 1947.

The top of the chimney is marked "The Adlake Non-Sweating Lamp". A curved copper plate on the front of the hinged lid reads: "ADLAKE" (Trademark), Patents in Great Britain, India, Argentine, Etc.  British patents 320770, 378864, 510814.  Other patents pending".

A second copper plate on the front of lamp body reads: "Lamp Manufacturing and Railway Supplies Ltd.  ADLAKE NO. 22. (Trademark) Patented.  Registered Design No 826558-9".

There are two lenses on this lamp - one large clear bullseye 4.5" in diameter, and a small, clear 1.5" lens on the reverse.  Access to the inside of the lamp is through the hinged top, where a burner/light source was originally dropped in from above.

A heavy piece of railroad equipment and weighing in at more than 13 lbs, this lamp  was not meant to be carried, but instead was mounted to a post.

Condition: Good used. There is no burner in this lamp.  The LMS plaque is damaged.  This is a vintage piece and has wear to the paint, small dents, rust and scratches as expected for a lamp of its age. See photos for details.
