CNR Hiram Piper Railroad Switch Lamp - Green and Amber Lenses
An amazing decor item! This very large CNR railroad switch lamp was made between 1923 - 1960 in Canada. A heavy piece of railroad equipment and weighing in at a hefty 11 lbs, it was not meant to be carried, but instead was mounted to a switch at track level.
The top of the chimney is marked HLP M (Hiram L. Piper - the manufacturer) and M (for the location it was made - Montreal).
There are four lenses on this lamp - two amber/orange and two blue/green. One of the blue/green lenses is on a vertical sliding door that gives easy access to the inside of the lamp where a burner/light source was originally placed. The door is marked CNR at the top, and Piper Montreal at the bottom.
Condition: Good used. There is no burner in this lamp. One of the amber/orange senses has a 4" crack with a small surface chip. This is a vintage/antique piece and has wear to the paint, small dents, rust and scratches as expected for a lamp of its age. See photos for details.
Dimensions:
Height to the top of the handle – 20"
Height to the top of the chimney – 15.5"
Diameter at widest point – 8.25"
