NYCS Dietz 999 Brakeman's Lantern - circa 1929

A rare Dietz 999, fixed bail, short globe brakeman's lantern circa 1929, made by the R.E. Dietz Manufacturing Company for the New York Central System (NYCS), which operated in the northeastern USA, Ontario and Quebec.

Top of lantern chimney is marked "No 999 Kerosene, New York USA”. The lantern hood is marked “NYCS". The oil fount is included, but the burner is missing.

One side of the clear glass globe is marked Adlake Kero CPR in raised glass. The opposite side of the globe is marked CNX (identifying the glass maker and type as Corning NONEX - a predecessor of pyrex),  and "Made in USA". There are chips to the top and bottom lips of the globe but they are not visible when the lantern is assembled.  The globe has bubbles from manufacturing process (common in older glass manufacturing).

Condition: Good used. There is a slight wonk to one side of the lantern lid where it meets the frame.  The burner is lost to time and is missing. This is a vintage  piece with rust, wear and dents, and is meant for decorative use only. See photos for details.
